SBC is the max pressure soil can support. Typical: soft clay 50–100 kN/m², sand 100–300 kN/m², hard rock 3000+ kN/m². Always confirm by soil investigation.
IS 1904 recommends minimum 0.5m depth from finished ground level for ordinary soil. Footings must also be below frost line.
